Gameplay
How do I play online with a friend?
Open Tavla, tap Online Mode, sign in with Google (Android) or Apple (iOS), then tap New Game and choose Private Room (Invite Link). Share the invite link with your friend — they'll be taken straight into the room when they tap it.
What are Public Rooms?
Public Rooms let you create a game anyone can join, or join a room someone else has opened. It's the fastest way to find an opponent when your friends aren't online. You can have one open public room at a time, and up to 5 active games total.
Can I play offline?
Yes. Single-player (vs. AI) and pass-and-play modes work entirely offline. Only online multiplayer requires an internet connection.
Can I change my nickname?
Yes. On the home screen, tap the nickname card (with the pencil icon) to edit it. Your nickname is what opponents see in online matches — your real name from Google or Apple is never shared with other players.
My opponent isn't responding
Tavla supports asynchronous play — your opponent can take their turn whenever they want, even hours later. If a match stays inactive too long, you can delete it from the My Games list by tapping the three-dot menu on the right.
How does scoring work?
Tavla follows the classic backgammon rules: a normal win is 1 point, a "gammon" (when the loser hasn't borne off any checkers) is 2 points, and a "backgammon" (when the loser has a checker still on the bar or in the winner's home board) is 3 points. Match length can be configured in the room settings.
Subscription
What does Premium unlock?
Premium ($0.99/month or $10/year) removes ads and unlocks additional board themes, dice styles, and detailed match statistics. Free players can use the default theme and play unlimited matches.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Google Play or Apple, not by us:
- Android: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions
- iOS: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions
My subscription isn't recognized in the app
Try the Restore Purchases button under Settings → Subscription. If that doesn't work, email us with your order ID (Google Play receipt or Apple receipt number) and we'll get it sorted.
Account & Data
Someone sent an abusive chat message
We take this seriously. Please email us at support@slafiy.com with:
- Your nickname
- The opponent's nickname
- A screenshot of the offending message
- Approximate time the message was sent
How do I delete my account and data?
You can delete all your data directly inside the app via Settings → Delete My Data. Alternatively, send an email to support@slafiy.com from the email address associated with your Google or Apple account (or your Apple "Hide My Email" relay address if you used that to sign in), with "Delete Tavla account" in the subject. We'll confirm and permanently remove all your data within 30 days.
Is my data safe?
Yes. We use Google Firebase which encrypts data in transit and at rest. We don't sell your data. See our Tavla Privacy Policy for full details on what we collect and how we use it.
Technical Issues
The app crashed or I found a bug
Sorry about that. Email support@slafiy.com with:
- Device model (e.g., Samsung Galaxy A26, iPhone 14)
- OS version (e.g., Android 14, iOS 17)
- App version (shown at the bottom of the home screen)
- Steps to reproduce the bug
The game disconnected during an online match
Match state is automatically saved to the cloud. Reopen the app and your match will resume from where it left off. If it doesn't, check your internet connection — Firebase requires connectivity for online mode.
